The 2026 I Love Silver Lake NY Sea Serpent Logo is the newest chapter in a long tradition of Silver Lake serpent designs that began in 1855 with Artemus B. Walker’s original creation.
This commemorative version was developed by the admins of the I LOVE SILVER LAKE NY Facebook page to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary and to honor the lake’s unique history and community spirit.
As long‑time lakers, the admins fondly remember the days of the Lightning sailboat races and the annual t‑shirt and sweatshirt designs that captured the fun and character of lake life. One design in particular—the 2000 edition—sparked the inspiration to create a modern interpretation that reflects today’s Silver Lake experience.
The updated logo features familiar sights spotted around the lake. Two people peacefully fishing from a small Jon boat, a pontoon boat, and a sailboat gliding across the water can be seen in silhouette form cast by the sunset, all behind the smiling friendly face of the Silver Lake serpent.
The logo also boasts a unique feature of Silver Lake in the iconic red railroad tower, proudly standing guard along the shoreline on the West Side of the Lake.
This tower was originally purchased by Mac Wyman in the late 1960's from the railroad company, along with a caboose , he moved it to his property along Luther Road just south of the Silver Lake Golf Course . The caboose has been long removed, but the tower has been maintained and still stands as a strong reminder of the community's proud history.
According to the New York Railroad Archives:" The Silver Lake Railroad was a six-mile-long railway operating from Perry to Silver Springs, NY. It serviced a number of industries in Perry as well as a large tourist trade to the resorts on Sliver Lake. It had different owners and a changed official company names over time but was generally referred to as The Silver Lake Railroad. It appears that the last passenger run to Perry was August 4, 1951; freight service on the line ended in 1971, and the tracks were removed in 1977."
The I Love Silver Lake NY Facebook page was started in June of 2025 as a way for the Lake community to keep each other informed of events, news, lost items/pets, or to simply post photos and share your love of Silver Lake and personal experiences.
